Nachdem IN FLAMES bereits letztes Jahr mächtig abgeräumt hatten, werden sie auch dieses Jahr wieder das WFF headlinen. Außerdem wurden DARK FORTRESS und SLAPSHOT bestätigt.
"Shades Of Sorrow" ist bereits das dritte Full - Length - Werk des niederländischen Sextetts, das laut Bandinfo zu den "größten Namen im modernen Doom" zähle. Witzischkeit kennt keine Grenzen! WHISPERING GALLERY vermischen tiefer gestimmten Doom mit viel Gothic und ein paar Death - Anleihen (die sich hauptsächlich in den Grunts von Reinier Vreeswijk äußern), verstehen es aber nicht, mitreißende Songs zu schreiben, sondern kochen kompositorisch auf Sparflamme. Richtig furchtbar ist jedoch der "normale", cleane Gesang von Gitarrist Hubert Ter Meulen, der total müde und lahmarschig tönt. Die süßlichen Keyboards geben dann komplett den Rest und verpassen dem Klangbild eine äußerst kitschige Note. "Shades Of Sorrow" zieht sich wie Kaugummi, und man wird den Eindruck nicht los, dass hier versucht wurde, die berühmte "eierlegende Wollmilchsau" zu erschaffen, die Doomer, Goten und Death Metaller gleichermaßen ansprechen soll. Wenn man dabei allerdings nur an der Oberfläche kratzt wie WHISPERING GALLERY und überhaupt keine echte Düsternis kreiert, sondern nur einen faden, nervigen, zum Einschlafen animierenden, monotonen Soundbrei abliefert, dann kann man die gesamte Unternehmung abhaken. Genau wie "Shades Of Sorrow"!
Auf ihrem MySpace Profil hat die Hardcore Legende HATEBREED überraschend die Rückkehr eines zweiten Gitarristen angekündigt:
" Hey everyone! Jamey here, we have a pretty big announcement to make. We´ve decided to become a five piece again. Mainly because of the new album having a lot of parts that involve second guitar but also because me & Beattie started this band as a 5 piece and feel like it´s an integral part of our sound and vision. We´d like to welcome Cleveland native, Hardcore legend and all around great guy Frank "3 Gun" Novinec to the band. Some of you may know him from his past bands Ringworm and Integrity and more recently, Terror. He´s one of my oldest best friends, so he fits in perfect! We´ll be making another big announcement in a day or two so stay tuned! We are in the studio now making the best album of our career. "Frank "3 Gun" Novinec has been an influential guitar player in the hardcore scene since the release of "The Promise," by Ringworm in 1993. His guitar playing/writing with Ringworm, as well as everything he did with Integrity helped to define the Cleveland sound. That sound had a direct impact on me as a guitar player, and as a fan, it got me through a lot of hard times and helped to define my playing today. I was lucky enough to meet 3 Gun while we were on tour with Motorhead, and playing a show in Cleveland.
