Band:
BiografieFormed in London, England, in 1977, Praying Mantis were at the forefront of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. The original line-up consisted of Tino "Troy" Neophytou (guitar, vocals), Robert Angelo (guitar), Tino´s brother Chris "Troy" Neophytou (bass, vocals) and Mick Ransome (drums). Through early demo recordings the band attracted the attention of heavy-metal club DJ Neal Kay, who helped them to release an independent three-track EP, The Soundhouse Tapes Vol. 2, a title also used by Iron Maiden for their first release. The band´s career can be closely linked with Iron Maiden during those early years as, in addition to both bands appearing on the Metal For Muthas compilation released by EMI Records in 1980, they also toured England together. Signing to Arista Records and replacing Robert Angelo (who joined Weapon in July 1981) and Mick Ransome with guitarist/vocalist Steve Carroll and ex-Ten Years After drummer Dave Potts, the band´s debut, Time Tells No Lies, was released in 1981. It was not well received, owing to the lacklustre production and basic melodic rock sound. The band decided a line-up change was needed, replacing the departed Steve Carroll with ex-Grand Prix vocalist Bernie Shaw, and they also recruited keyboard player Jon Bavin. This line-up went on to record "Turn The Tables" for a compilation album released on the Yet Records label in the mid-80s. Through a lack of media interest the band metamorphosed into Stratus, who specialized in standard melodic rock and also featured ex-Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the N.W.O.B.H.M. the band re-formed early in 1990 to tour Japan as part of the British All Stars. This new line-up consisted of founder-members Tino and Chris Troy, ex-Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di´Anno, ex-Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton and ex-Weapon drummer Bruce Bisland.Praying Mantis
