BiografieJess and the Ancient Ones is an Occult Rock band from Kuopio, Finland. This seven-headed entity was given birth by Thomas Corpse and Thomas Fiend, its purpose being the exploration of magical realms beyond the mundane. The band’s lyrical concept is based upon the personal occult experiences of the writers, which combined with music the creates a strong mystical atmosphere and an unforgettable live performance as well. With the vocal talent Jess as their frontwoman and three guitars in the lineup, JATAO draw their inspiration from heavy metal and rock groups of the classic era, such as Mercyful Fate, Roky Erickson, Iron Maiden and Abba.
The band has been extremely well received by the global heavy music underground, and were quickly snapped up by Svart Records, the Finnish label known for their quality vinyl releases. The debut 7 inch single “13th Breath of the Zodiac”, released by Svart in October 2011, sold out quickly, and plans for a full length album were soon laid. It doesn´t matter if you call it “Occult Rock”, “70´s Rock” or just “Retro Sound”, JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES is one of the best bands that Finland has given birth for a long time. Their self-titled debut-album is nothing else than a masterpiece of modern Old School-Rock music.

Es spielt keine Rolle, ob man es “Occult Rock”, “70´s Rock” oder einfach nur “Retro Sound” nennt; JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES sind eine der besten Bands, die in Finnland seit langer Zeit das Licht der Welt erblickt haben. Ihr selbst betiteltes Debütalbum ist nichts weiter als ein Meisterwerk moderner Old School-Rock-Musik.

Nach ihrem überragenden, selbst betitelten (und noch nicht mal ein Jahr alten) Debütalbum war ich umso gespannter, was JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES mit vorliegendem Nachschlag auffahren würden, zumal die

Dass eine überragende Band wie THE DEVIL´S BLOOD irgendwann mal „Nachahmer“ abwirft, war eigentlich klar.
