Band:

Unsoul

Biografie

The band Unsoul was founded under the former name Apostasy in 1995 by Stephan Kohl (drums), Ludwig Ringler (guitar) and Dennis Schröder (vocals). The lineup was completed shortly after by Ilja Schneider (bass) and Stephan Buch (guitar).

The first release was the demo "Alptraum". After a time of musical experimenting the first LP "Seed of Rage" was released under the new name "Unsoul" in 1999, recorded at Soundforge Studio near Berlin. Its style is best described as kind of classical midtempo-Deathmetal. Nearly all of the 500 produced cds were sold in the following time.
Two years and many new songs later, the album "Die by evil pain" was recorded, but never made it to the release since Ludwig left the band shortly after finishing the recordings and the band was on the verge of falling apart. A number of months Karl played the guitar, but he also made clear that he would quit soon.

Luckily, in spring 2002 the ex-Ferox-guitar player Moritz Bossmann volunteered for the band, reforming the bands musical style with his different kind of playing. On the same occasion Konstantin Frick, former keyboard-player at Rusty Cooperation, joined the band. Stephan and Konstantin knew each other long ago and had played together in some funstyle experimental shizophrenic metal project called " Colchicin". The integration of a synthesizer, which might seem strange and unusual in the first place, also had its impact on the bands style.

In the following year a number of new songs was written, standing out from the old set with a joy of playing and musical variety and vitality not experienced by the band anytime before. The new set was presented often in a number of live-gigs all over germany.

In summer 2003 the band headed for Jena in Thuringia to record a part of the new set unter Stephans direction at the Halls of the gutted-studio. The 4 songs were published as a mini-cd called "Beyond the concrete". At the same time and place the death metal band "Torn to Pieces" from Jena recorded their album, with Stephan at the drums and Moritz playing the guitars.

Back in Berlin, Felix Knöppel (bass) from the Berlin death metal band "Frozen Fields" joined the band to replace Ilja, who had to invest more and more time in his career and therefore could no longer afford the time for the band. In this formation a number of live-gigs were played, most of them bringing a very good feedback in terms of Neanderthal man-like behaviour throughout the audience.

In summer 2004 Felix decided to quit in order to concentrate his energies on his own band.Nonetheless, Unsoul started with the recordings for the next 4-track mini-CD called "Welcome to Annexia".

In december 2004, two new members joined the band´s ranks: Tølle, who plays the bass, and Moloch, who is taking over the second guitar.

At the beginning of 2005, the band had another lineup-change when Chris took the place of Tølle at the bass-guitar.
In april 2005, the production of the MCD "Welcome to Annexia" was finished, making it publicly available.

UNSOUL bewiesen bereits mit ihrem letzten Werk, dass Progressivität nicht immer zu Lasten der Hörbarkeit gehen muss.
