BiografieOVERDRIVE SENSATION is a rock band from Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein, Northern Germany, founded in spring 2003 by songwriter, guitar player and singer Olli Overdrive. Until November 2002, he had played guitar in a band called Volcano Tornado, together with John Porno (Bass/Vocals) and Mayhemic Sensation (Drums/Perc.) who complete the present line-up of OVERDRIVE SENSATION.
Their music showcases a variety of different moods and is written and arranged completely by Olli. He is also the lead singer who writes all the lyrics. The group plays ageless rock music, with references to “the golden age of Rock’n’Roll” (ca. 1955 – 1975). On the one hand, they p(l)ay their own dues to the blues as well as fast driven three-minute-stompers full of boogie (BOOGIE!), but on the other hand they are able to create melodic and subtle moments full of distinction in order to give their music a wide-ranged spectrum. “Our music is a homage to the days, when musicians put their heart and soul into every single song to make every single second an experience for the audience. These days many artists tend to put everything they are capable of into their music thinking that the more they ‘blow it up’ the more attention they will get. But the real deal is to give every song exactly what it needs” says Olli. And the main thing that matters for the boys is the music itself, of course, not a trendy image or an extra-ordinary stage show. Olli: “We know that it is becoming more and more difficult today to get a good reaction from the people - or even any reaction at all – if you just stand there on stage playing your songs and saying ‘Thank You!’ It seems that you are nobody in reality and that you are not going to make it far, as long as you don’t have some kind of crazy image or attitude. This is sick! As far as we are concerned, we usually get good reactions – and just because of our songs! So there is no need for us to worry, we really believe in what we are doing and that quality will always win in the long run! And this doesn’t mean that we are always about to fall asleep when we’re on stage, we put a lot of energy into our sets and usually get a lot of it back from the crowd!” Indeed, OVERDRIVE SENSATION will rock you madly! Olli again: “In 2004, when we played the Showbox gig during the ‘Kieler Woche’, we didn’t have a set list – and it worked out for us so well, that from that day on we would never have one anymore. For yourself, you don’t get bored too soon and you can see how the first few songs work out and spontaneously decide what song to play next. So that makes every gig a very special moment of its own!”
