The Wake

BiografieThe Wake - Bio 1998 - 2003

The story of The Wake starts from the year 1998 when two brothers from Karjaa set up an underground metal act. They played for a while, anonymously and without a purpose. Those guys were Sakari and Harri Lempinen. Later on things turned more professional and they were urged to find a guitarist. Lauri Helenius joined the crew. Rehearsing, songwriting and booze.

At the very beginning of the year 1999 Kaj Michelsson joined to play the bass. Wellu Helenius joined as a vocalist. Bleeding Harmony is chosen to be the name of the band. A lot of more rehearsing and drinking. Things turn out poisonous and the bands musical line is almost found. First gig under the name BH is made.

Backstabbing, bad rumors and weak humour at the year 2000. Wellu leaves... Kaj takes the position of being a vocalist with a bass hanging from his shoulders. As it still is today. First demo is made. Recorded at Moonman Studios, Helsinki recieving inspiring and positive feedback. The band is more motivated and more hungry than ever.

2001. Lauri got kicked due to personal reasons and differences. Jani Luttinen and his magical fingers joined the band. Heavy drinking, few gigs and a bunch of new songs.
Entered the studio again in late year 2001 to record a new promo. After the studio sessions Harri said goodbyes and joined the army. Wellu joined the band for the second time. But as a drummer with many years of experience from drums in different bands and projects. Turned out to be an excellent choice.

The promo came out at the year 2002 and shocked the local underground scene, made the heads of record labels turn and stuffed the mouths of suspecting people with so big cock that it couldn´t be swallowed. The guys finally came to senses and changed the bands name to The Wake. Things led to another.

The Wake signed a contract with Spikefarm Records at the beginning of year 2003.

Ode To My Misery - Cover
