Band:

Spirit Web

BiografieThe earliest traces of the Spirit Web entity date back all the way to a band called Stygian. This was Paul Speredes´ first metal band. Unfortunately, this didn´t last long. The band played several live shows in the local Chicago scene until when the singer quit, so did Paul. The remaining members carried on and several tapes and a full-length CD were released later.

Paul went on to play in several other bands, some of which were called The Victims of Illusion, Dark Ages and Syris. Paul first met Scott Huffman while he played in Dark Ages, but eventually Scott left to join Stonehenge, and then later another band named The Lords of Meat. Both of these bands released some original music on cassette.

In the mid 90´s Scott Huffman ran into Sean Brown - drummer and one of the founding members of Syris - purely by chance, though maybe fate had a hand in this matter. Scott noticed Sean´s insanely long heavy metal hair and asked him if he played in a metal band. Sean explained his current involvement with Syris, that he had a record deal, and that he needed a singer and guitarist to write an album. One thing led to another and eventually Syris consisted of Sean on drums, Rob Such on bass, Paul on guitar and Scott handling the vocals. Together they recorded the Syris "Unseen Forces" album. After some live shows, 1998 saw the beginning of a second Syris album. Unfortunately Paul wanted to take the music to a more technical level, and this led to conflicts with Sean and Rob, so eventually Paul left the band.Fortunately for Paul he had known of a great bass player named Brent Sullivan, who happened to be from the Chicago area. Brent first played in a band called Slauter Xstroyes, and they were a more technical power metal band. Slauter Xstroyes released 2 LPs called "Winterkill" and "Free The Beast". Shortly after Slauter Xstroyes split up, Brent formed another band called Winterkill. This is where he met drummer Tony Rios, who had previously played drums for Habitual Ritual.

So Spirit Web formed with Paul Speredes on guitar, Scott Huffman on vocals, Brent Sullivan on bass guitar and Tony Rios on drums. They all agreed to record the Spirit Web debut CD.

"The result was a very honest Metal CD. We played the music to please ourselves without having to worry about a Record Company´s opinions." - Paul Speredes

Unfortunately, later on Tony Rios, as a result of a DUI incident, lost his driver´s license and could not make it to practice. So Chuck White replaced Tony, and was able to play drums for the 2 bonus songs on the European re-release of the Spirit Web debut.

So now, we look not towards the past but towards the future. What paths lay ahead for Spirit Web, and which path will be taken? There is a new album in the making and a possible tour of Europe planned for early 2003. Whatever happens, it will surely be nothing less than shredding power metal.
