Wolfpack Unleashed

Biografie"Combine TESTAMENT riffing with MEGADETH harmonies and METALLICA-style vocals - but without stealing anything - you get an idea of the WOLFPACK UNLEASHED sound." - Wops Koch, WPU guitarist.

"When we started making music, our home country was only known for rumbling Death and Black metal." As a natural inclination and one, which clearly stood out among the masses, Koch dedicated himself to Thrash and founded Austria´s only Thrash metal band in 1995. While at first similar to the German scene kings, the style and taste of the guitarist evolved into the American "Bay Area Thrash" sound - precise, exact, and as heavy as the melodic styles of bands like Metallica, Exodus, Megadeth or Testament. Koch states, "I realized quickly that all classic Thrash riffs were already written, so we used minor chords and melodies to create a unique sound."

The Pack Assembles

When the Koch broke off from his previous band, he acquainted himself with the pride of the Düsseldorf Drummers Institute, Daniel Haberl, and the duo formed WPU in January 2005, first conceptualized as a studio project. Soon thereafter, highly technical and skilled guitar player, Karl Preininger, was recruited.

Koch et all had clear requisites for a singer that would complete this Thrash dream team. "We didn´t want a screamer who kills all the harmonies and melodies by barking all time. That´s the way most other modern Thrash bands do it, and every time they sound like a crap-version of Slayer. Günther (Wirth) has a natural, rough voice that suited perfect to our music." WPU was complete.

The band worked on the first songs and finished the Demo The Art Of Resistance at the onset of 2006. Rather than knock on the doors of various random labels, WPU finished and released the demo on their own and sent it to selected media.

After the four Austrians conquered their home country by storm immediately earning the respect of the underground, international media recognized the talents of the band. Rock Hard Italy wrote "a logical evolution of Metallica´s Golden Age" and voted The Art Of Resistance as Best Demo of the Month. German Heavy Magazine praised it as "A furious Thrash-firework." German Legacy Magazine was reminded of "Metallica back in Master-Of-Puppet-times and old Megadeth releases." And Metal Hammer Magazine even heard a "mixture of Megadeth in Rust in Peace days and Metallica´s Black album - on speed."

With the fantastic feedback from both fans and press, WPU started their second approach on record companies, finally signing the bottom line of an offer from Napalm Records. Anthems Of Resistance voices what WPU stands for:
intelligent, technically superb melodic Thrash, covering the whole spectrum from fast, double bass-songs like "Last Dance Of A Dying King", over mid-tempo stompers ("Next Victim"), up to high speed Thrash massacres ("Religion Of Control"). Lyrically, WPU unapologetically relates to the hypocrisies of today with classic anti-war themes, or expresses it´s views about religious extremism. The pack also provoke us with lyrics about the last moments of Beethoven ("Eroica"), abuse/abortion and personal loss.

The trite trends of the day prove the antithesis of WOLFPACK UNLEASHED. Koch states, "We don´t have breakdowns, nor hip-hop beats, nor stylish colored tattoos paid by daddy and definitely not black dyed Emo haircuts. Thrash is not music to get rich fast... it´s music for the idealist."Quelle: http://www.wolfpackunleashed.tk/Discografie2006 - The Art Of Resistance (Demo)

Anthems Of Resistance - Cover
Normalerweise finde ich Bands, die öffentlich "zugeben", in die Fußstapfen von METALLICA, MEGADETH oder TESTAMENT zu treten (siehe Biografie auf der Homepage der Band), immer reichlich "selbstbewusst"
