There are moments in life that teach you to listen to the spiritual voice inside yourself. And there are moments that change everything and yet let so much be the same.
When André Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori left Angra, they were facing one of the biggest changes in their life so far. Having sold more than one million records with Angra they dared a step into the unkown.

And, somewhere on this journey away from Angra, on to the realms of their musical mind, they ´ve found their SHAAMAN.

By the end of 2000 the SHAAMAN is already alive. Already in 2002 the band can celebrate their "Ritual", which marks the first release of the freshly rising band. The album brought innovative melodies and the distinct voice of André Matos, one of the most special heavy metal vocalists in the world. This successful combination sent the album to be released in more than 15 countries, and took the band’s name up to the sky as one of the best heavy metal bands worldwide. In Brazil "Ritual" was even elected as ‘album of the year’ by the readers of Folha de S. Paulo, the most important newspaper in Brazil.

So soon everything seemed to be like before: "Ritual" becomes a great success and sells more than 100,000 copies worldwide. André, Luis and Ricardo are, together with their guitarist Hugo Mariutti, back on top. A long touring with more than 130 shows follows the release of the album.
For many Brazilians the guys are, as much as they have been it with Angra, superstars. No one is really surprised as "Ritual", the title song of the album, makes career as a soundtrack for a famous Brazilian soap opera.
A live DVD/CD, "RituAlive" is recorded in São Paulo with the participation of great names of the metal scene worldwide, like Michael Weikath from Helloween and Tobias Sammet from Edguy. It has been released in 2004 as a debut for SHAAMAN ´s new record label AFM Records.
On them their second album "Reason" is now going to be released - the second breeze that enlightens the SHAAMAN fire again. It has become a magical, extremely passionate album full of progressive power and atmospheric feelings.

"Reason", produced by Sascha Paeth (Edguy, Rhapsody), is the natural evolution of "Ritual".

Full of enthusiasm and feelings André Matos´ voice leads through powerful and emotional songs of highest quality. It ´s not simply metal, it ´s a journey on every feeling one can express with music. A journey through the ranges of emotions. And a journey through the ranges of André ´s very personal voice.

There is the trashy Turn Away, the title song Reason, which brings back those good and old twin guitars from Iron Maiden and Metallica. There is In The Night, which reveals a progressive side of Shaaman , and there is also the beautiful Innocence, an orchestral epic masterpiece that sends you back to ballads in the vein of Queen or The Scorpions.

Even the cover-version of Sisters Of Mercy ´s all-time-hit "More" flows in the passionate veins of Brazil ´s most amazing voice and shows itself a completely new side.

"Reason" probably is the deepest, most grown-up piece of music this Brazilian musicians have done so far in their life. And "Reason" is a good reason for the metal-world to celebrate a striking, spiritual power to keep it fresh. The SHAAMAN-spirit is alive!

Due to name problems in South America, the band name is spelled SHAAMAN from no on!!!

SHAAMAN sind seit einigen Jahren die neue Heimat des ehemaligen ANGRA - Fronters André Matos und haben sich mit ihrem 2002er Erstling "Ritual" bereits ein Standbein geschaffen.
