BiografieIRONSWORD is much more than a Metal band, actually it is a life style.
Musically, IRONSWORD is highly inspired by bands from the 80’s like
MANILLA ROAD, OMEN, BROCAS HELM, CIRITH UNGOL, etc.
Lyrically, IRONSWORD is highly inspired by the typical kind of sword & magic fantasy topics in general...
The band´s name IRONSWORD was chosen because not only it was a short, powerful, typical cliché Heavy Metal name, but it conjured up images and visions of ancient epic battles and bloodthirsty barbarians as well.



1995 - 1996 EV
IRONSWORD started as a one-man-band of Heavy Power Metal formed in early 1995 by Tann.
The first release was a 15 minute promo-tape with 3 songs, “I Am The Defender”, “The Flame and the Sword” and “Battlecry”. Tann played all instruments except the drums, for which he used a drum machine. At that time it was too hard to find decent musicians into traditional Heavy Power Metal, so Tann decided to carry on alone. This tape was released in late 1995 and it was only spread to some mags and radioshows. It was highly welcomed, even for a time when traditional 80’s Metal music was not popular and considered outdated, but one goal was achieved successfully. It certainly provoked curiosity and interest in the musical project, recognising its potential and bright future.

IRONSWORD was claimed as the master of Portuguese Heavy Metal, or the defender of the faith.
All this with just one tape that could not be fairly judged due to its bad sound quality
(after all everything was recorded on a 4 tracker).

A few months later, new songs were composed for the first official studio demo, but then a contract deal emerged from a German underground label to release a CD. More songs were composed, but unfortunately the deal was cancelled. Meanwhile, other underground labels approached IRONSWORD
for a deal but ironically all turned it down after a while.
