Electric Six

BiografieA Brief History of Electric Six

We used to be called the Wildbunch. We had to change our name to Electric Six because we wanted a shot at the big time. We got our shot, but we are not entirely sure this is the big time. We think this is more of a hazy limbo with no end in sight. We’re not even sure if God remembers us or cares who we are. Over the years, we reckon we’ve had 4 different guitarists, 4 different bass players and 5 different keyboard players. We use stage names because we had a stupid idea one night and now we have to live with it. We are from Detroit. We love Detroit. We love the fact that is the only place where the USA is north of Canada, and we love our mayor, Kwame. We live in London, England now. We formed as the Wildbunch in 1996. We were middle-aged and naïve then and happy just to be gigging around Detroit at places like the Gold Dollar and the Old Miami. We put out a full-length CD called Rock Empire and we released some 7” singles on Flying Bomb records. We felt like rock stars if we got to play Cincinnati and Cleveland in the same weekend. We told people we were “on tour”. We were middle-aged and naïve.

We were signed to our first and only record deal in 2002 by XL Recordings, LTD, 1 Codrington Mews, London W11 2EH. We were informed that we had to change our name if we wanted a shot at the big time. We wanted a shot at the big time, so we selected Electric Six as our new name, to maximize the potential of our shot at the big time. We provide you with a link (*) to show you some of the names we considered instead of Electric Six. We recorded our first and only full-length release as Electric Six to date in late 2002 and we decided to call this record Fire. We noticed a surplus of the word “fire” on the record and decided to go with it. We toured extensively around the world in 2003 and continue to do so into 2004, but we are aware that we are yet to return to Cincinnati. We are still middle-aged, but probably less naïve. We live in London, England now.

We understand that there a great many pages missing from this brief history, but we feel we can get away with that as the operative word here is “brief”. We thank you for your interest.
