The Chimaera was without a doubt one of the most fearful and dangerous creatures that ever came out of the earth´s inside. After Belerophon killed this creature thousands of years ago, Chimaera reincarnated from the ancient land of Lycia anno 2000, even more dangerous and furious then it was before! This 5-headed riff-spitting killing machine unleashes pure fuckin’ metalcore to mankind.

Chimaera hails from the north-east part of Belgium called Limburg. Raised from the ashes of “Burden”, they started with Chimaera in the beginning of the year 2000, also the time xkoenx joined the forces. The current line up is: Kristof: guitar - Koen: guitar - Michel: bass – Ben: drums – Jan: vocals.

Chimaera created a sound you can probably describe as a brutal mix between metal and hardcore. Shitloads of technical melodic guitar riffs and tremolo picking balanced with some dual guitar harmonies turning into devastating mid-tempo pieces and some slower breaks and leads, combined with tons of pounding drums and sneering vocal screams, and from time to time some cutting black metal styled riffing and blastbeats. Lyrics deal about very different subjects, because Chimaera wants to contribute as many issues as possible. Mostly they deal about some essential problems in our society like: war, human- and animal liberation, racism, organised religion, … but also about some personal things like friendship and stuff…

The Myth is back and this is how it kills in the 21th century.

In September 2001 Chimaera recorded 5 songs in the Artsound studio in Belgium. Those recordings resulted into a mcd (DIY) that must help to get more shows, and to let people know their music. It worked out very well since the release of this mcd and Chimaera became stronger and stronger. They played tons of shows and shared stages with: heaven shall burn, liar, throwdown, eighteen visions, caliban, congress, born from pain, kingpin, dead blue sky, circle, .calibre, give up the ghost, … and much more cool bands. All those shows gave them a decent live-reputation and leaded to a record-deal with Genet recordings.

In August 2003 they hit “De Studio” and together with engineer Dirk Miers (born from pain, deviate, arkangel,…) They recorded the new songs. In October that same year Chimaera released their first full-length album “Passion sets the killing” on Genet Records. 9 songs of pure metalcore-mayhem were unleashed to the crowd… still they played a lot of shows and also went touring in Holland, UK, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech rep., Slovak Rep., Poland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Swiss,...

They also went on a mini European tour with Darkest hour and played Groezrock festival with Sick of it all, e-town concrete, the bronx and more wicked bands... Chimaera’s music got good reactions all over and motivation was enormous. While playing shows like crazy they keep on brainstorming and writing new stuff.

During the months march, april and may 2005, Chimaera did the recordings of their second full album. With a bigger studiobudget they wanted to achieve the best they can. For the first time they worked together with a producer; Xavier Carion, the former master riffmeister of Belgiums most heavy and successful band in history, Channel Zero. Drumtracks have been recorded at the grindhouse studio. Guitars and vocals in Xavier’s Gnome studio in Belgium. For the mixing of the album they flew to the famous Fredman studio in Göteborg (Sweden). Frederik Nordström (Dimmu borgir, In flames, Arch enemy, the haunted, Darkest hour, At the gates, Hammerfall, Opeth, Soilwork…) unleashed the coolest and heaviest swedish metalsound on the recordings, and Goran Finnberg was responsible for the mastering and the finishing touch of the album.

In June 2005, the second full length album “Stygian” will see the light of day. Again genet records will release this piece of metalcore-art. 9 new songs with a heavy solid production, 1 cover track of the band Abnegation and 1 intermezzo-song.

That same month they are gonna finish also their videoclip “When the suicide lies dead”.
