Band:

The Duskfall

BiografieSpawned in Luleå, north of Sweden, the band was formed in January 1999 by Mikael Sandorf (ex.Gates Of Ishtar) and Glenn Svensson. Back then it was supposed to be more of a "jam/cover" metalproject with Mikael playing drums and Glenn shredding guitar. It only took a couple of rehersals until they realized that they wanted to put together a full-time band, playing their own music. At that time Mikael had plans on doing a soloproject under the workname Duskfall. It was supposed to be his new adventure after the crash n´burn project GATES OF ISHTAR, but he changed his mind and took the written material to this new project instead.

Now the guys started to work on their first couple of songs and finding members to fill the empty spots in the band. They found a bassplayer in Tommy Konu from Deathbound and and old friend of Glenn, Jonny Ahlgren took care of the second guitar. The vocals were first managed by Per Johansson from Satariel and he also drew the first logo for the band, at that time named SOULASH. Finally the band had a full line-up!
After some live shows and the recording of their first demo "Demo 1999", Per decided to leave SOULASH for personal reasons. Then the band changed the name to get a fresh start, now using the name of Mikael´s planned soloproject Duskfall.

As life is no cinderella story, the band had to struggle with line-up changes and fucked-up recordings. Mikael had to replace Per on vocals and Jonny on rhythmguitar and his spot behind the drums were filled by Urban Carlsson. The band managed to keep the spirit up and created more songs for a second demo.

Then the second big disappointment came. Tommi and Urban didn´t find the time to give 100% to Duskfall and the band decided to look for another bassplayer and a new drummer. This took quite a while and after months of searching they asked an old friend from Gates Of Ishtar, Oskar Karlsson, to join the band. Oskar took care of the drums and suddenly out of the blue, Kaj Molin appeared. Kaj was the missing link and he replaced Tommi on the bass. Finally the band had a full line-up!

In the summer of 2001, they started to rehearse for the recording of the"Deliverance" promo. With the new members they could bring their music to a new level, adding more tecnicallity and advanced structures to their songs. This forced Mikael to give up his vocals, focusing on his guitarplaying and the microphone was handed over to Kai Jaakkola from Deathbound.

In spring 2002 the years of struggle ended. Duskfall was contacted by Greece label Black Lotus Records, after they had recieved the "Deliverance" promo from one of the bands fans in Greece. A recorddeal was made and now the guys are rehearsing for the recording of their debut fullength-CD in the infamous DUG-OUT Studio.

Today the band has finished their work on their material for the debut CD. It resulted in 10 tracks of pure melodic mayhem, influenced by the 80´s and the early melodic deathmetal of the 90´s. By a stroke of luck the band got in contact with Magnus Olsson, one of Swedens best lead guitarplayers and he will appear on the recording as a guest musician.
The title of the long awaited debut will be "Frailty" and some of the working titles for the songs are: Poison the Waters, Agoraphobic, None, The light, Just follow and Unspoken.
The response among the pre-listening fans has been awesome so far and this recording will be a milestone on the bright path that The Duskfall has in front of them. The journey has begun!

Frailty - Cover
