Inspired by the Japanese visual-kei scene and the brutality of Swedish hardcore and metal, Marionette has brought light to the metal genre. Mixing elegance, darkness, power, aggression, and speed, Marionette’s upcoming debut album, Spite, will hit the metal scene with the power of an atomic bomb in April 2008.

Marionette was founded in late 2005 by bassist Mikael Medin who wanted to form a band that sought to mix the ambiance of Japanese music with the harshness and aggression of Swedish metal and hardcore: a previously unheard of and an original combination of styles. After a few lineup changes, Marionette officially took its current form in late 2006. The band recorded their second demo Terror Hearts with Henryk Lipp (Burst) and Christian Silver (Sonic Syndicate) during the fall of 2006. Terror Hearts was mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, At The Gates) in December of that year. Ever since the band’s inception, Marionette entered a number of contests: placing in the top tier in each. The band ranked among the top 4 in the Scandinavian finals of Emergenza, one of the worlds largest music contest. Marionette also went to the finals of Sweden’s biggest contest, MusikDirekt, ending up in the top 20 among over 700 unsigned bands. Other achievements include winning Göteborgstalangen and Centrumgbg’s Metaltown contest and going to the finals of Partillerocken. Marionette’s success is testament not only to their energetic and interactive live shows, but also to their rapidly growing fan-base. The band ended 2007 with a successful performance at RookieFestival in Hultsfred, the largest and most prestigious festival for unsigned bands in Sweden. Additionally, Marionette has been featured twice in the Göteborgs Posten, one of the Sweden’s largest newspapers.

Without a doubt, Marionette is a gem in the Swedish metal scene, going beyond the boundaries of the Gothenburg sound. The band’s explosive live show, coupled with their youth and large following make them a group to keep a close eye on as they prepare to release Spite through France’s Listenable Records. Spite was recorded with a series of talented up and coming Swedish producers as well as established names in Swedish music: including Simon Exner and two time Swedish Grammy winner Åke Parmerud. Spite was mixed and mastered by Christian Silver (Sonic Syndicate, By Night) at StudioMega in Varberg Sweden.
