Band:

Peter & The Test Tube Babies

BiografieMake no mistake! PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES have written some of the best punk songs ever. In the early 80´s they stood out, above all other bands to emerge, with their tales of the hazards of being young punks in Brighton´ "Banned From The Pubs", "Intensive care", "Run Like hell", the list goes on .. all had the Test Tubes hallmark, combining personal experiences, real cool tunes and most important of all maintaining a great sense of humour.

At the time, their gigs were fun filled events with electrifying tunes and plenty of entertainment. harmless humour of those early gigs was captured on their debut album "Pissed And Proud". From those early gems, the Test Tubes just got better and better. The next crop of songs, "Jinx", "Blown Out Again" and "September" all featured on "The Mating Sounds Of South American Frogs" which stayed at number one for four months at the top of the independent charts. A U.S. tour followed, climaxing with a 4,000 capacity sell out show at the Los Angeles Olympic Auditorium.

The Test Tubes first U.S. domestic release "Soberphobia" is probably one of their finest moments and the use of keyboards and sax on some tracks may not have been what people had expected but it still worked a treat. The much sought after CD´S "Cringe" and "The $Hit Factory" again proved the Test Tubes unpredictability in the early 90´s.

1995 saw the release of "Supermodels" and the departure of Trapper and Ogs (bass and drums). Eighteen years had taken its toll as better paid employment beckoned. Throughout their career, Peter And The Test Tube babies have proved themselves to be excellent musicians and never one to conform to the punky norm. From tracks like "Disco", "Pissed Punks Go For It" and even "Zombie Creeping Flesh" to Del singing on "All About Love" as well as covering Madonna and The Spice Girls songs at gigs, they always took people by surprise.

1998 - (The Test Tubes 20th year) with the young and dynamic Rum and A.D. firmly in place (behind drums and bass respectively), Peter And The Test Tube babies release their latest studio album "Alien Pubduction" featuring soon to be classics such as "Legless", "Pissed For Xmas" and "Sour Grapes" and the title track "Alien Pubduction".

The schedule to promote the album began in earnest with a massive 5 week tour of the U.S.A and Canada followed by various U.K dates and of course the annual German Xmas tour.

1999 - By the summer the exhausting workload on the band had become unbearable for Rum and he quit. Paul ´ H ´ Henrickson ( another old friend from Brighton ) joined and the band´s unrelenting album promotion saw them doing extensive U.K and German tours and a very busy summer/autumn of European festivals. The single ´ Fuck The Millennium ´ was released b/w ´ I´m getting pissed for Xmas ´ featuring GBH in November.

2000 - There was no let up to the album promotion and after a tour of Ireland in February the band spent the rest of the year on the road touring Britain, U.S.A and Germany whilst again filling the summer with various festivals.

2001 - Following a two week tour of France in the Spring, the pressure of being away from home so much took its toll on A.D and he left.

Peter, Del and H took this as a sign and cut back on the workload. The band are approached by Tony Hawks to contribute a song to his film ´The End ´ and he uses ´ Blown out again´ After weeks of auditions in the summer Christophe from Paris joins the band on drums. He also plays harp for the Scottish National orchestra as well as the Paris orchestra ! The band undertake further U.K dates and of of course the annual German Xmas tour.

2002 - The year starts with the band appearing as special guests at a party for Tony Hawks in Los Angeles. Peter holidays in Brazil during February and even plays a gig there with a Brazilian band ( The Lambrusco Kids ) who know all the Test Tubes songs. The rest of the year sees the band on the road again taking in such diverse places as The Shetland islands and their first gig in Belgrade. A massive festival in Rostock during the summer is the highlight of the year.

2003 - H breaks his leg in the spring and regrettably the band have to cancel a few appearances. However this gives Peter and Del the chance to start work on new material and to plan ahead for the next album. It is decided to let Christophe use his songwriting, arranging and composing skills for the sole benefit of getting together some new material. Dave ´ Gay David ´ O´Brien joins on drums in the summer and Christophe retires to the studio. The year finishes with weeks of intense rehearsals, some U.K dates and of course the annual German Xmas tour.

2004 - The ´ Escape the wife ´ U.K tour is scheduled for April and May as is an appearance at a big Punk festival in Stavanger Norway. Peter and Del will be taking June off to watch Euro 2004 and have decided to try and keep the summer festivals to a minimum so as to work with Christophe on the next album. They will be appearing at the ´ Wasted´ festival in Morecombe during July though. A short tour of Brazil is booked for mid October to promote their first official album release there. A 2004 remix of Jinx by a guest producer will also be released there. If all goes well the band expect to be in the recording studio working on the next album at the end of October.

They still remain one of the best punk bands to come out of Europe. If you get the chance, make sure you don´t miss them!
