Band:

My Own Grave

BiografieIt all began in the year 2001...
...three intoxicated morons decide to form a band.
After the first rehersal John (drums), Anders (guitar)
and Max (bass) decided the band would definently
need a singer so Ramin Farhadian; fellow headbanger
and drinking mate picked up the microphone for
the first time in his life and made som growls.
The others were impressed and so MY OWN GRAVE was born.
They completed four songs over a two-months period
and then entered Trackline Studios (Sundsvall)
to record the shit. The result was the four track demo CD
New path/Same path which received good remarks
in Swedish metal magazine Close Up (7/10).
August came and Anders moved to Luleå to study
and it became very hard to get gigs since he was
seldom back home in Sundsvall. Due to these
long distance problems autumn ´01 resulted in only two
half-finished songs and the second demo was delayed.

In January 2002 MY OWN GRAVE recruited a second guitarist. Stefan Kihlgren, class-mate to John started joined the band
after the 10-timmars gig at Pipeline on the 1st of December. January and February were good months for the band and the
two half-finished songs + another new song were finished. In the end of March/beginning of April MY OWN GRAVE
entered Studio Domsaga (Sundsvall) to record the second demo Dissection of a mind. The demo (recorded in 12 hours!)
features three new songs and a new version of the song Ever mourning change (from the first demo).

In the summer of 2002 Max and Ramin joined the Swedish
army and left Sundsvall to sleep in tents, eat poor rations
and spend days being yelled at by subhuman multi-assholes.
However it turned out that Max´s army service was easier
than presumed and as if that wasn´t enough Ramin disparted
from his army duties and moved back home.
During autumn 2002 MY OWN GRAVE were able to reherse
more than expected and this resulted in another
two new songs by the time they performed live at Pipeline
(Sundsvall) in early November.
The gig was a huge success and almost nothing went wrong.
On the day after Christmas Day MY OWN GRAVE once again
entered Studio Domsaga, this time to record the 3rd demo
Blood and ashes. The process, again working with
Roger Bergsten, was quick as always and four songs were
recorded and mixed over a 3-day period.

After that, mostly due to Anders´ school work becoming more intense, the band didn´t reherse much.
In late March 2003 MY OWN GRAVE decided to replace singer Ramin Farhadian with Mikael "Aron" Aronsson.
This had nothing to do with any internal conflicts. "The rest of the band simply felt his commitment wasn´t strong enough.
There are no hard feelings however and we all wish Ramin the best of luck in the future.
The man has a very good death/black voice and will hopefully get the chance to use it in another band in the future".

The summer of 2003 turned out to be a good one.
The band did two gigs at "Smack Rockfestival"
(with among others In Battle, Diabolical,
The Haunted and Julie Laughs Nomore) and at
"Sundsvalls Gatufest" (which is a big mainstream
city festival) at the stage for unsigned bands.
With these two gigs settled the band could finally
start working on new material. A new song "From the ashes"
(the title reflecting the fact that MY OWN GRAVE had
been dead since the recording of Blood and ashes
in late December) was written. A few days later it was
decided that MY OWN GRAVE would contribute on
"Så jävla underground Vol. 1" a demo band compilation
put together by Swedish SlaveState Magazine so the band
entered Studio Domsaga with Roger Bergsten
(in late July) to record From the ashes.

In September 2003 My own grave travelled to Zola Predosa (outside Bologna) Italy to do a show at a demo band festival.
The trip was the result of a musical exchange program between Timrå and Zola Predosa. Needless to say MY OWN GRAVE
represented Sweden in the best way possible: putting on a hell of a show and consuming abnormal amounts of beer.
A week after the return to Sweden My own grave got a new rehersal place. This long-awaited change of premises
was probably 2003´s best happening next to the Italy trip.

On Halloween 2003 My own grave performed at
Musikens hus in Gävle. The gig went very well
and the road-trip will probably never be forgotten...
Snow fell and in early December all four songs for
the 4th demo were completed.
As scheduled MY OWN GRAVE were to enter Studio
Necromorbus (Stockholm) with Sverker "Widda"
Widgren of Diabolical at the 26th of December
but big problems emerged. Studiefrämjandet,
MY OWN GRAVE´s study circle, could not come up
with the sufficient sum for recording at
Necromorbus so MOG postponed the recording and
instead returned once again to Studio Domsaga
on January 2nd 2004. Disappointment was turned
into productivity and Progression of through
deterioration saw the light of day the 6th of
January 2004. Best production and best material
hitherto speaks for itself, Progression through
deterioration will send your head in fucking orbit!
PTD received very good reviews and finally a label announced their interest. It was Dutch label Karmageddon Media (ex. Hammerheart Records). The contract offered neither economic independence nor a lifetime supply of beer but it meant releasing an album worldwide so MOG inked a deal for one album and options for two more. After a chaotic celebration party at Stefan´s house followed by an ever more chaotic celebration gig at Pipeline (Sundsvall) in April there was need for clarity and time to decide what songs to include on the not yet named debut album. In May 2004, 4/5 of MOG packed their bags and headed north to play at Kåryran in Luleå. Johnny-P of SYN:DROM was recruited as chauffeur and Ödling of Diabolical and Setherial tagged along to ensure that the road-trip wouldn´t lack idiocy or könsrock. The gig was ok but the after-party will go down in history. Seriously, what´s up with Mr. Aronsson´s könslambada?

After sobering up and Anders finally returning home for the summer, MOG returned to their rehearsal junkyard which at the time lacked a lot of essential equipment so bass, guitar and vocals had to be run through the PA system. How anything listenable was ever written in that place remains a mystery. Anywho, listenable stuff was written that summer, the PTD songs got some minor makeovers and two songs from Blood and ashes were heavily re-arranged to meet up with the MOG Anno 2004 standards. In addition five new songs were spawned and in September the quartet travelled South to team up with Vidar "Widda" Vidgren of in Studio Necromorbus (Stockholm). The first session lasted two weeks and during that time, all drum tracks and guitars were recorded. Due to a full-booked schedule the return to Necromorbus was delayed til´ November.

That time Max and Aron did their tracks and Stefan arranged some wet-panty, 80´s steeming solos. The mixing was done in December and the mastering was done by Widda in January 2005. What really went on during the Necromorbus sessions can fill several heavy volumes of print and most of it is both irrelevant and inappropriate to publish here. However MOG will take the chance to appologize for the fact that ALL pictures taken are blurry and seem to lack any instance of vital relevance. Yes, there was some beer involved...

The album was given the title Unleash (which soon became an ironic title due to circumstances about to unfold) and the artwork was created by graphics-slave Anders. When both the artwork and master tape was finished one will easily jump to the conclusion that the album will soon be released. So did MY OWN GRAVE. Fate however had different plans. First of all there was a cash shortage which delayed buying the master from Necromorbus. This took two months to solve. In the meantime MY OWN GRAVE teamed up with SYN:DROM and Hellmasker to play on Walpurgisnacht at Club Purgatory (Stockholm). Back home in Sundsvall the wait continued. Aware of the fact that a record takes about 10 weeks to print, MOG waited patiently for any release date to emerge. Everything pointed towards a release in September 2005 but when September came the release date was set to October 10th.

In October however, there was still no news about Unleash and the communication with Karmageddon wasn´t functioning very well. In November, finally realizing there wasn´t going to be any 2005 release, MY OWN GRAVE broke the silence by doing a gig at Pipeline with Setherial and Ambulance. In late November the band discovered that Unleash had already been released without their knowledge. The pre-release turned out to be a misunderstanding between Karmageddon Media and Plastic Head and since no one wants to release an album during the last month of a year (unless they´re Peter Jöback), the release was labeled a mishap and the real release-date was set to January 1st 2006, thus breaking MOG´s one-record-a-year suite.
