Band:

Hyades

BiografieHyades history starts back in 90s, exactly in the year 1996. When I started, the best North Italian metal bands were disappearing, leaving a black hole. I remember IN.SI.DIA, Icon, Ed Gein, Abnegate, PWR... There was a lot of kicking ass bands, but as usual for Italy, no labels and no money.
In the mid of the Nineties a generational exchange took place with the birth of many bands all around Milan; the 1996 is the year of Vexed, Hatework and of course... Hyades. The first line-up consisted of me, Lorenzo, together with Omar Ceriotti on drums and Michele Spallieri (later in Symmetric Disorder); I remember we played cover songs from ´Tallica, Helloween (just from "Walls of Jericho")... what a nuisance with that fucking metronome! We started soon writing songs, and when the anchovy maniac Corrado (later in Balrog), the blasphemous Andrea "Big" Colombo and my brother Luca joined the band, we started playing live in small clubs. At that time we were very young and we played a classic heavy metal... not so shitty, but very simple.

The year 1999 saw the recording of our first demo, absolutely to avoid! I wrote all songs, but vocals was proper to Corrado and his powerful voice similar to Ralf Scheepers; too bad about two months before entering studio (21th of March), Corrado was fired due to personal problems, so we found quickly a new singer: Marco Colombo, the double of Madam Min from Disney cartoons. What a mistake! He sang like an hen, or an evirated man, and the result was the horrible "Princess of the Rain" demo. How much money thrown away!

I started soon writing new songs, more aggressive and straight-in-face, trying to convince Marco to sing in a different way. In the meanwhile my brother leaved for a lack of time and interest and Mark Negonda joined the band. I wrote songs such as "Burning", where we played an heavy/epic/thrashy metal that we called "piston heavy metal"! Ahahah! In the spring of year 2000 we self-recorded three new songs for "MCLXXVI" demo, a sort of concept based on the Battle of Legnano that took place near Milan on May, 29th 1176; good songs but very bad production, thanks to an odd way of recording created by Madam Min!

The blasphemous Big was fired in the summer of 2001 due to... uhm honestly, to his marijuana abuses, but there were also quarrels with Marco; thanks to bass-player Fabio Cantù (that played in Hyades in 1997 for a couple of months) we recorded our first professional work: "No Bullshit... Just Metal!". It was a nightmare: endless recording sessions, wasting money and time, but after two months our four-song EP was ready to kick some fucking ass! The new stuff saw a big growth in the songwriting and, of course, in the professional recording, two important aspects well acclaimed by the critics worldwide. "No Bullshit... Just Metal" received reviews worldwide with nor a rate under 7,5/10! German magazine Heavy Oder Was?! choose the song “Burning” to appear on their underground metal band sample CD “Metal Crusade vol. 4”, giving the band a wider and bigger visibility in Germany and rest of Europe. Anyway, no label was interested in us, for a simply reason: we are fucking wops. Yes, it´s sad but true: it is very hard for an Italian band to find a deal with a foreign label. Just LMP contacted us, but they wanted other songs in "No Bullshit" style: surely it would have been easy for us to write "Burning part II", but we were turning to a more aggressive and thrashy sound.

Year 2002 saw the recording of a new self titled demo including the first Hyades video for the song “I Am Dynamite”; bass player Riccardo Crespi joined the band for about one year, then replaced by the actual one, the hair-ball Roberto "Il Bardo" Orlando, while on drum, founder member Omar Ceriotti was replaced by ex Power Symphony and actual Soul Takers drummer, the primitives Mauro De Brasi, the first drummer in the world without dynamics: only "fortissimo"!
With this line-up we lived two fucking great years together, writing new songs and playing from South to North Italy, supporting legendary acts like Manilla Road, Omen, Virgin Steele... The Italian tour with US-act Helstar was surely the best experience in our life; James Rivera and Jerry Abarça bought our CD and asked us for autographs. I was moved! Good persons, really, and incredible musicians.

We took a short break for the recording of our first full-length album, titled "Abuse Your Illusions"; thanks to the guys from Hatework we recorded at Porky´s Studio (Arconate - MI) nine new unreleased song and a funny cover version of Beastie Boys hit "Fight for Your Right", whit Fabio Formenti from punk rock act Tracciazero as special guest. Well, it was there that Lo met Fabio, asking a couple of weeks later to enter Hatework as new singer. By the way, it has been a long recording process, and we wanna thanks Marco, Max and Lo for their patience. Thanks, brothers.

Now "Abuse Your Illusions" is ready to kick some ass. And after nine years of music without a label we have now signed a double deal! Our album will be released worldwide by the legendary heavy metal label Mausoleum Records (Anvil, Voivod, Killer, Angel Witch and many more) and in South America/Japan (with three bonus-tracks) by Brazilian label Marquee Records (Sacrifice, MX, Sun Descends, Iron Angel...).
"Abuse Your Illusions" will be released the 14th of November by Mausoleum Records, and the 24th of October by Marquee Records. We will start a promotional tour in the fall of the year, in spite of Mauro´s decision to leave the band for a lack of time. The new drummer is now Rodeath (Subliminal Crusher, S.R.L.) Hyades´ long time friend and best choice for this killer job. We are planning the best way to celebrate ten fucking years of metal together with our friends Vexed and Hatework!!Quelle: http://www.hyadesmetal.comDiscografieAbuse Your Illusions CD 2005

Abuse Your Illusions - Cover
Italien macht Spaß. Tatsache, auch musikalisch, nicht nur im Urlaub und Restaurant. Die Jungs hier bestehen schon seit 96, haben vier Demos draußen und kommen jetzt mit ihrer ersten CD.
