Demir Demirkan

BiografieDemir Demirkan was born in Adana Turkey, on August 12th, 1972. He studied high-school in Ankara and Izmir. After high-school, he started Bilkent University in Ankara to study English Literature and Humanities. During his college years he joined the band Pentagram as a guitar player.


After completing the album Trail Blazer, he moved to Los Angeles,CA to study at the Musicians Institute in 1992. He has studied with various musicians including Paul Hanson, Scott Henderson and Frank Gambale. Staying in Los Angeles after graduating he played, wrote, and recorded diffrerent styles of music like pop-jazz, afro, latin and rock.


He returned home to Istanbul in 1996. Following his arrival he got back with his band Pentagram to record the album "Anatolia", prior to producing Þebnem Ferah´s debut "Kadýn". Another production followed this: Sertab Erener´s third, "Sertab Gibi". All were released in 1997. As his producer side pushed heavier he had to quit the band Pentagram. Then came another round of two albums with Þebnem Ferah, "Artýk Kýsa Cümleler Kuruyorum" (1999) and Sertab Erener´s "Sertab" (1999). He has participated in the recording of the duet with Ricky Martin and Sertab Erener called "Private Emotion" produced by Desmond Child. This version of the song was released in the Middle Eastern countries.


He signed a contract with Sony Music, Turkey to prepare a solo album. His solo debut was released in May, 2000.


Expanding his abilities, he even took mid-range acting parts in two TV movies. At the end of the year 2000, he went back to the studio to produce another album for Sertab Erener, which came out in April, 2001 with the title "Turuncu". Demir Demirkan is now at the studio, preparing his second album which will be released in February, 2002.


After promoting and touring for his 2nd album, Demir was chosen to play as one of the three stars of a TV show called 5´i Bir Yerde. This TV series is a remake and Turkish version of the US TV series Party Of Five. He plays the character Charlie, adapted into Kaan. He also wrote a song called Hayat Sensiz Olmuyor for the series, using the chorus as the theme of the drama, and also shooting a video for the song to promote the series.
