Band:

Acid Drinkers

BiografieAcid Drinkers were founded on 21st September 1986 by of Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki (vocals, bass) and Robert "Litza" Friedrich (guitar, vocals). The lineup soon expanded as Darek "Popcorn" Popowicz (guitar) and Piotr "Chomik" Kulk (drums) joined the band. In this lineup the band worked on their first own compositions - numbers like "Barmy Army", "Del Rocca" or "I Mean Acid" appeared. Nevertheless, within a month from formulation of the squad Titus was called-up and left his pals for two years. Yet other members of the band didn't intend to idle their time away: Litza and Popcorn undertook a reactivation of a band named Slavoy. Nonetheless, soon after both of them received proposals to play in two reputable groups: Popcorn in Wolf Spider, and Litza in Turbo.

After coming back from army, Titus tried to reactivate his first squad - Los Desperados. These attempts misfired and Titus, after meeting with Popcorn, decided to revive Acid Drinkers. A bit later Litza and Ślimak joined the band. Their debut took place on 26th August 1989 on Wyspa Słodowa in Wrocław, and proved to be the beginning of their true. Rumors about new, excellent metal group swiftly spread across Poland. Soon afterwards Acids received an opportunity to record their first album.
This lineup wrote their best known classics, like: the debut - "Are You A Rebel?", "Vile Vicious Vision" and the most famous longplay - "Infernal Connection".

At the end of 1998 Litza decided to leave the band. Przemysław "Perła" Wejmann, a singing guitarist and a leader of Guess Why replaced him. With "Perła" on board, Acids recorded three albums "Amazing Atomic Activity", "Broken Head" and "Acidofilia". At the very beginning of 2003, Perła, because of misunderstandings and opposable visions on the grounds of band's future and music, made up his mind and left the band.

It took almost a month to choose a new guitarist. The new member turned out to be Tomek "Lipa" Lipnicki, a well-known frontman of Lipali and, already nonexistent, Illusion. Together with Lipa, Acids recorded a well-received longplay "Rock Is Not Enough," nevertheless after over a year of cooperation, the Lipa left Acid Drinkers. His place in the squad was taken over by Aleksander "Olass" Mendyk from "None." Soon after he left his original band in order to focus on Acids.

Years 2004-2007 were spent completely on playing gigs in different parts of Poland. Two big tours (Rock is not Enough Tour and Killers on the Loose Tour), a concert commemorating 10th anniversary of Infernal Connection's release, band's first gig in London and, most notably, playing at the Woodstock Festival in 2007 are probably the most important highlights of these years. It is important to add, that in 2006 band's second DVD was released. It contained their performance during Metalmania Festival and a documentary filmed by Fabryczna Art.

The year 2007 ended with an information, that Acid Drinkers signed a contract with Mystic Production. This implied, that the band was going to start working on their new album. Indeed, the recordings took place somewhere between March and April. The album was named “Verses of Steel” and the release date was set to 7th June, 2008.

“Verses of Steel” proved to be a huge success and met with generally positive reviews - it was later nominated for Fryderyk (one of the most prestigeous musical awards in Poland) in three categories (Production, Composer, Best Heavy Metal Album). Furthermore, the day before the album's release it was announced, that Acid Drinkers won Złoty Bączek Award for their performance on Woodstock Festival.

After playing several concerts during summer, the band started preparing for autumn's Verses of Steel Tour, Part I, which lasted from 10th October up until 30th September. Unfortunately, the tour's end proved to be very tragic, since the day after the last concert Olass was found dead in his bed. Nevertheless, Acid Drinkers decided to continue their carrier. They played a special concert on 13th December to commemorate their dead friend. The band performed as a three-piece.

The beginnings of February 2009 were marked by the information about preparations for Verses of Steel Tour, Part II. It was also announced, that Olass' place would be temporarily filled by band's good, old friend, Wojciech “Jankiel” Moryto, who earlier worked as band's backline technician.

Fishdick (Re-Release) - Cover
Metal Mind Productions, die hundertdrölfte.
Fishdick Zwei - The Dick Is Rising Again - Cover
Die ACID DRINKERS sind eine laut Promoflyer in Polen äußert bekannte Meta-l und Rockband.
Infernal Connection (Re-Release) - Cover
Die ACID DRINKERS waren in Polen sicherlich eine große Nummer und in den Anfangstagen mit ihrem Slapstick-Spaß-Thrash vielleicht sogar ganz witzig.
Vile Vicious Vision (Re-Release) - Cover
Hier also das 93er-Album als Re-Release: Das wutzige Cover mit Arschbeißenden Pferden und der Kifferrückseite versprüht ähnlichen kindlichen Witz wie die Musik.
